About Hyo-Mi (Mia) Pek Neri
Mia is a fifth-year doctoral trainee in School/Clinical Child Psychology at The University of Texas at Austin. She provides therapy to children, adolescents, and families navigating anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), selective mutism, mood concerns, life transitions, and challenges related to neurodevelopmental differences.
Mia’s approach is warm, collaborative, and individualized to each client’s strengths, needs, and goals. She draws from evidence-based approaches, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), exposure therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), behavioral activation, motivational interviewing, and DBT-informed skills. She values working closely with caregivers to help children and adolescents apply new skills beyond the therapy room.
Before beginning her doctoral training, Mia spent 10 years as an elementary school teacher. This experience continues to shape her family-centered and practical approach to care, as well as her understanding of the demands children face across home and school settings. Mia strives to create a supportive environment where clients feel understood, develop confidence, and build meaningful skills for lasting growth.
